![]() ![]() That's when I realized who she could be and I lifted up her shirt to confirm my theory. It's like her page in "The Barbie Doll Photo Album" popped into my head. I took a real look at her face and suddenly the image came back to me of that adorable face attached to a doll wearing a red and navy outfit. It wasn't until I was looking through the bag of dollies on my lap (our Fold 'n Fun House stowed safely in the trunk) that I really looked at Skipper. I know I'm absolutely thrilled to have Skipper and I believe my sister feels the same about Miss Camryn. Shelly knew I'd regret leaving Skipper and I knew she'd regret not buying Camryn. Luckily, we were looking out for one another's best interests more than our own. Shelly was obviously a fool to even think of leaving Camryn behind when she was fully clothed, basically complete, and we've rarely, if ever, seen MC² dolls secondhand. Obviously, I was stupid not to realize immediately that she wasn't Quick Curl and should have, therefore, spent way more time trying to identify her before putting her down. I think this shows how we can both get sidetracked while doll shopping and don't always think clearly. I wanted to rescue Camryn and was thinking of how to persuade Shelly to take her. I was feeling very."shoppy" and, as I have few 70s Skippers, I probably would have advocated to stuff her in the bag with Camryn anyway, as I was loathe to leave Camryn behind. Now, Shelly reckoned Skipper would have been abandoned had she not pointed out my mistake. We opted to stuff her in the bag with Camryn. Shelly had been on the fence about Camryn Coyle, alone in a bag and marked for three. Skipper was free floating, no bag, no price. I took a closer look, realizing that I definitely did not have this doll. Now, Shelly knew, because she was holding her, that she was NOT Quick Curl, and informed me of this. "I think she's another Quick Curl," I said dismissively. I processed that she was a 70s Skipper who looked familiar, barely glancing at the face. Shelly showed me this Skipper, clad in an old blue shirt. During the hunt, sometimes your mind is too busy trying to get the whole picture to focus too hard on one item. We stopped at another store on the way home and were rifling through the dollies in the basement. Pickins were extremely slim and the only dolly item we found was Angel Face Barbie. We'd hit up one charity store, found it was relocating and everything was free. I was in a bit of a doll shopping frenzy really. I thought I would never, in a million years, actually own one. I thought the outfit pieces sold with her were absolutely adorable, and I loved how unique she was. Being older and more open to a variety of dolls, I was openly fascinated with Skipper and Ginger and wanted them very much. I forgot about this Skipper until we got our "The Ultimate Barbie Book" in 2011. Because the two body types crossed in Barbie's world in the 70s/80s, most fashions sold then were sold for either body type really. However, in teen-form, she's pretty similar to dolls like Hot Stuff Skipper and in girl-form she's more or less the same as Malibu Skipper. At the time, one of my excuses for not liking her as much as other dolls was that the body-morphing feature would make her harder to fit in clothes. I also liked that she came with a bonus clothing item. Also, even if I claimed otherwise, the idea of Skipper developing breasts was like Midge being pregnant-controversial, probably not favored by parents, and, therefore, what every kid secretly wants. However, I was secretly intrigued by her 70s Barbie vibes, her cute face, and her adorable hair. Yes, she certainly looks different from the late 80s/90s/early 2000s dolls in our collection at the time and I'm one of those people that likes more of the same. I claimed to think the idea was "dumb" and "weird" at the time, even though I didn't actually think that. ![]() I'm pretty sure I first saw Growing Up Skipper on eBay. The reticle contains additional markings for distances out to 100 yards and can be illuminated in either red or green by spinning the dial on the left-hand side. For this crossbow with its 500+ FPS velocity, these markings line up at 8x when the central crosshair is zeroed at 20 yards. This scope features arrow drop compensation that is based on the scope's magnification. The 505 Nitro comes with a few different sight options, and mine wore the Evo Marksman Elite 2-8X scope. After experimenting a little more, I brought the 505 to full draw, stowed away the crank handle, set an arrow into the flight groove, and began my journey into uncharted territory.įrom my 20-yard shooting position, I peered through the glass and centered up on a well-used archery bag. Should your hand slip during de-cocking, don't sweat it, as the crank system is under control the entire time and won't spin independently. I really liked that the shooter isn't fully committed once they start the cocking process, as simply turning the crank the other way will decock the crossbow. Additionally, the user can stop anytime during the draw, and I took advantage of the feature a few times as I referred back to the manual to confirm that I wasn't missing anything. To put it into perspective, that's only three fingers' worth of effort. Naturally, one might fear slipping as the high-tension string is drawn however, the Acuslide system prevents this and requires just 5 pounds of force to crank back. The cocking system of the Nitro 505 is unique as it incorporates both safety and ease of use into a user-friendly package. I wouldn't go waving my hand over a rifle barrel even if it was "unloaded," right? ( Editor's Note: For more crossbow safety tips, click here to watch this video!) It was adamant that the user must keep their hand away from the string and pulleys at all times, even if it is "uncocked." Right off the bat, I likened it to the muzzle of a firearm. Above all, this material made it obvious that the string system could be dangerous, even including the word "amputate" when referring to misplaced digits. To my delight, TenPoint includes an incredibly thorough owner's manual and links to instructional videos, making it easy to understand its basic operation and the do’s and don'ts. Needless to say the initial unboxing was a bit intimidating.
